Point Type Ignition System Question

Howdy gang...

I'm in the middle of retrofitting my 1976 Traveler from the Holley electronic
ignition system back to a point type distributor. I know... go ahead and
shake your head... but in my case I have an MSD 6A ignition system and the
points will only function as a simpler and more reliable (IMHO) trigger for
the MSD system. In case of an emergency where the MSD system failed, the
points and coil alone could get me back to civilization.

My question is this...

In the factory IH point type ignition system, is there some sort of resistor
in the hot wire leading from the ignition switch to the positive terminal of
the coil? The MSD system doesn't require such a resistor, but many point type
ignition systems have it. The years that my IH shop manual covers doesn't
show wiring diagrams for point type ignition, only electronic.

If the answer is yes, then please tell me anything you can about this resistor
so I can fabricate one and add it to the system. Is it a ballast resistor or
a resistance wire, or what? How many Ohms?

Thanks a million.

John

PS: If this works out satisfactory for me, I guess I'll have a complete and
fully functioning Holley gold box ignition system with distributor for sale if
someone wants to make me a reasonable offer. The electronic distributor is IH
part number 461279-C91.
